Turkey Opens Investigation into Killing of Turkish-American Activist in the West Bank

Turkey’s justice minister has announced that the country is investigating the death of a Turkish-American activist, who was shot and killed by Zionist forces last week during a protest in the occupied West Bank. The 26-year-old activist from Seattle was participating in a demonstration against Zionist settlements when she was fatally shot last Friday.
On Thursday, Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc confirmed that Ankara’s chief prosecutor’s office is leading the Turkish investigation. He also called on U.N. agencies, including the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary, or arbitrary executions, to look into the case. Tunc emphasized that Turkey is committed to seeking justice for the activist’s death.
Tunc further stated that Turkey plans to present its findings to a U.N. court that is overseeing a genocide case against the Zionist entity, which was filed by South Africa in connection with the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He expressed determination, saying, “We will take every judicial step for our martyred daughter, Aysenur.”
In a related development, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced that Eygi’s body is expected to be brought back to Turkey on Friday. Her funeral will be held in the Aegean coastal town of Didim, in western Turkey, according to the wishes of her family.
