At least nine migrants drowned on Thursday in the Aegean Sea off Turkey’s coast after their inflatable boat sank, according to coast guard officials.
“The bodies of nine irregular migrants have been recovered,” reported the Turkish coast guard, noting that search operations were continuing in the vicinity of the shipwreck throughout Thursday afternoon.
On the same day, a similar incident occurred in nearby Greek waters, resulting in at least seven fatalities.
