Trump’s Historic 100-Minute Speech Draws 36.6 Million Viewers, Outpacing Biden’s Final SOTU

Around 36.6 million Americans watched President Donald Trump’s 100-minute speech at a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night—the longest in modern history.

According to The New York Times, Trump’s live TV audience was 13% higher than the 32.2 million viewers who watched former President Joe Biden’s final State of the Union (SOTU) address. Nielsen data also showed that 71% of Trump’s audience was aged 55 and older.

However, Trump’s first major speech in his second nonconsecutive term had fewer viewers than his past addresses. His 2017 speech drew 47.7 million viewers, while his SOTU speeches in 2018 and 2019 attracted 45.5 million and 46.8 million viewers, respectively, according to The Los Angeles Times.
