Trump Rules Out Third Term, Citing Constitutional Limits

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he would not seek a third term in office, acknowledging that the US Constitution clearly prevents him from doing so.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while traveling to South Korea, Trump said, “It’s a very interesting thing. I have the best numbers for any president in many years. And I would say that, if you read it, it’s pretty clear. I’m not allowed to run. It’s too bad. But we have a lot of great people.”
His comments came in response to reports that House Speaker Mike Johnson had suggested there was no time to amend the Constitution to permit a third term. The US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits presidents to serving two terms in office, a rule Trump said he respects, despite his strong approval ratings and continued influence within the Republican Party.
