Trump Rules Out Third Term, Backs Two-Term Limit

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he will serve only two terms, putting to rest speculation about a possible third bid for the White House. “I’ll be an eight-year president, I’ll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important,” Trump said in a Sunday interview with NBC News.
Trump emphasized his goal of securing “four great years” in his second term before handing the presidency to “a great Republican,” mentioning Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential successors. While acknowledging that he once joked about a third term, Trump said he respects the idea of two-term limits.
Although Trump questioned whether the two-term limit is constitutional, the 22nd Amendment clearly prohibits anyone from being elected president more than twice. Some allies have floated the idea of Trump returning through succession, but formally amending the Constitution would be nearly impossible due to the high bar of congressional and state ratification.
