Trump Renews Push for US Control of Greenland, Citing Security Concerns

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday reiterated his desire for the US to take control of Greenland, arguing that it is essential for national and international security. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump claimed that Greenland’s strategic location has made it more crucial than ever, particularly with advancements in modern weaponry and air defense capabilities. He insisted that acquiring Greenland was necessary, despite denying that it was part of ongoing discussions with European leaders or Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Greenland, which has been under Danish sovereignty since 1953, has drawn Trump’s attention due to its strategic position and vast mineral resources. His remarks have reignited tensions, especially after he refused to rule out economic or military actions to secure the island, stating that it was critical for “the protection of the free world.” Trump has previously likened the potential acquisition of Greenland to a “large real estate deal,” emphasizing its importance for US economic and military security.
Trump’s approach mirrors his controversial plan to expel Palestinians from Gaza and redevelop the territory, which he has also characterized as a “big real estate site.” However, his ambitions for Greenland have been firmly rejected by Denmark and the island’s inhabitants, who oppose any move toward US control.
