Trump Praises Putin as ‘Very Solid’ and ‘Very Strong’ in Talks on Ukraine Ceasefire

US President Donald Trump described Russian President Vladimir Putin as “very solid” and “very strong” following their recent phone conversation, emphasizing that he believes Putin is serious about ending the conflict in Ukraine. Speaking to the Washington Examiner, Trump stated, “It was a very good call. I know him very well. I think he is very serious that he wants to end it [the conflict in Ukraine].”
The two leaders spoke on March 18, discussing a proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, as well as measures to prevent further escalation. Trump highlighted Putin’s support for the initiative, particularly regarding a halt to attacks on energy and infrastructure in Ukraine. The conversation also touched on broader international concerns, reflecting ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Moscow.
Putin’s backing of the ceasefire proposal signals a potential shift in the conflict dynamics, as both sides explore pathways to de-escalation. However, skepticism remains about the feasibility of such an agreement given the complexities of the war. The discussions mark a renewed effort by Trump to position the US as a key mediator in resolving the crisis.
