Trump : Canada ‘Considering’ 51st Statehood in Exchange for Free Golden Dome Access

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that Canada is “considering” joining the United States as the 51st state in exchange for free access to the American “Golden Dome” missile defense system, reviving his provocative pitch for the northern neighbor’s annexation.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State. They are considering the offer!”
Canadian officials have not publicly responded, but Prime Minister Mark Carney, during a recent White House visit, firmly rejected the idea, stating that “Canada is not for sale, and won’t be for sale, ever.” Still, Carney acknowledged that talks are underway with the Trump administration about participating in the Golden Dome initiative to bolster North American defense.
The Golden Dome, which Trump estimates will cost $175 billion over three years, aims to deploy cutting-edge missile interception technologies on land, sea, and in space. While exact technical details remain undisclosed, Trump said the system will defend against threats from Russia, China, North Korea, and even potential dangers from outer space. He added that Canada’s involvement would be “a fairly small expansion” and that pricing was under discussion.
