Trans-Saharan Pipeline Set to Link Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria by 2027

In an interview with the Nigerien Press Agency (ANP), the Director General of Hydrocarbons at the Nigerien Ministry of Petroleum, Mr. Chaibou Ibrah Abdoul Nasser, stated that the Trans-Saharan pipeline is expected to connect Nigeria to Algeria via Niger by 2027 to transport Nigerian natural gas to Europe.

“It will cross Niger for more than 1,000 kilometers, and it is a cooperation between Niger, Nigeria, and Algeria. Thanks to previous discussions, the ministers of these three countries have committed to building these pipelines, which will supply the international market with gas from these three nations,” explained Chaibou Ibrah.

“I would like to remind that Niger has a gas potential of over 23 billion cubic meters, which has been confirmed and is ready for exploitation,” he said, “One of the benefits will be the exploitation of this natural gas and its value on the international market. Once our gas enters the global market, we will get significant returns. Another expected benefit is that, once the pipeline crosses Niger for over 1,000 kilometers, we will gain from what is known as transit fees.”
