Portuguese international and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died alongside his brother André Filipe in a tragic car accident in northwestern Spain, local authorities confirmed early Thursday.

The fatal crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on a highway in the Zamora province. According to the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil), the vehicle veered off the road before catching fire. Both occupants, Jota and his younger brother André, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Jota, 28, had recently celebrated his wedding just ten days prior to the accident. His brother André Filipe, also a professional footballer, played in Portugal’s second division.
