Times Higher Education University : Algeria Ranks 1st in Maghreb

ALGIERS – The Algerian universities ranked first at the Maghreb level in terms of the number of universities appearing in the ranking of the 2025 Times Higher Education, the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research said Wednesday in a press release.
“The Algerian universities rank first in the Maghreb, in terms of the number of universities ranked in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and which include universities from 115 countries,” said the same source.
The ranking involved 26 Algerian higher education establishments, i.e., up in the number of universities compared to 2024.
The University of Sidi Bel Abbes ranked first at the national level and is among the best 1,200 higher education establishments worldwide, which proves “the efforts made by the sector to improve the position of universities in the various world rankings, promote their visibility at the international level and to strengthen their economic role,” said the press release.
The Times Higher Education ranking is based on five main criteria, namely the quality of higher education, the quality of scientific research, citations and adaptations, openness to the world and impact on industry, said the same source.
