Thousands of protesters, including TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, gathered in London to demonstrate against new inheritance tax changes for farmers announced in the Budget. Clarkson expressed concerns that the new rules mark “the end” for farmers, urging the government to reconsider.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak acknowledged the concerns, stating he wants to support farmers, but emphasized that “the vast majority” would be unaffected by the changes. From April 2026, inherited agricultural assets worth over £1 million will be subject to a 20% inheritance tax, half the usual rate. However, some allowances may allow married couples or civil partners to pass on farms valued up to £3 million.
