Thousands of Belgian Academics Call for a Boycott of Zionist Entity

A coalition of over 6,600 professors, researchers, university staff, and students has signed an open letter urging Belgian universities to end all collaborations with institutions affiliated with the Zionist entity, local media reported on Wednesday.

The signatories accuse universities linked to the Zionist entity of being “directly or indirectly involved in human rights violations” and condemn their “complicity” in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

They are calling on Belgian universities, as public institutions, to “sever their ties with Israeli institutions” and to “align their policies with international law.”

The petitioners assert that “universities have a responsibility to uphold international law.” They reference decisions made by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the past year, including arrest warrants issued against Zionist leader Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

This call for a boycott has been characterized by Belgian media as “the most significant collective denunciation of human rights violations in Gaza and Palestine by the Belgian academic community.”

The open letter has received endorsements from 29 deans, 64 department heads, 1,107 professors, 1,518 researchers, 634 administrative staff, and 3,290 students.
