Tensions Rise as North Korea Puts Artillery Units on High Alert Over Alleged South Korean Drone Activity

In the latest flare-up of tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has placed its artillery units along the border on high alert, accusing South Korea of flying drones over Pyongyang to distribute anti-North Korea leaflets. North Korea labeled the act a military provocation and a violation of its sovereignty.
In response, North Korea has stated that its army is “on standby to open fire” following the alleged drone flights over its capital. The situation has sparked a strong reaction from South Korea, with National Security Director Shin Won-sik warning that any attempt by North Korea to “start a war” would be “suicidal.”
The accusations and heightened military posturing come amid long-standing tensions between the two countries, further escalating the already volatile situation in the region. Both sides remain on edge, as diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions have faltered in recent years.
