Tanzania: 70 Injured in Train Derailment

At least 70 passengers were injured overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday when six carriages of a train derailed in western Tanzania, according to a statement from the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC).
“Among the 571 passengers on board a narrow-gauge train operated by the TRC, at least 70 sustained injuries during the incident involving the derailment of six out of twelve carriages,” the TRC reported.
“The derailment occurred at 1:30 AM local time in the Uvinza district of the Kigoma region, just hours after the train departed from Kigoma station, heading towards Dar es Salaam and passing through the regions of Tabora, Dodoma, Morogoro, and along the coast,” the statement continued.
