Syria Denies Moroccan Claims About Sahrawi Fighters, Reaffirms Support for Polisario

Damascus – The Syrian presidency has categorically denied the existence of any current or past information supporting Morocco’s claims about the presence of Sahrawi fighters in Syria or its prisons, whether at present or at any point during President Bashar al-Assad’s rule.
The Syrian presidency reaffirmed the accuracy of the statement issued by the office of the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front. The official clarification was published on the “Damascus” website, which is affiliated with the Damascus Foundation for Studies, Culture, and Development.
The source explained that all detainees held following military operations are Syrians involved in war crimes, adding that if any foreign individuals had been arrested, the Syrian authorities would have officially contacted their respective governments.
Earlier, the Polisario Front had issued an official statement from the office of its Secretary-General, firmly rejecting the allegations in a recent report and describing them as “media fabrication” aimed at distorting the Sahrawi people’s legitimate struggle. The statement accused a German journalist of Moroccan origin of being behind the report, calling it part of a coordinated Moroccan propaganda campaign against the Polisario Front.
The Polisario Front reiterated its total rejection of attempts to link the Sahrawi people’s struggle with terrorism, deeming such allegations an insult to a people whose cause is recognized internationally.
