Switzerland Summons Zionist Ambassador over Death Penalty Law for Palestinians

Switzerland has summoned the Zionist ambassador to express its concern over a new death penalty law adopted by the Zionist parliament, reportedly designed to apply exclusively to Palestinians, according to local media.

The Zionist ambassador to Switzerland is to be summoned this week to the headquarters of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Swiss Radio and Television (RTS) reported on Monday.

The head of the FDFA’s Peace and Human Rights Division, Tim Enderlin, has already contacted the ambassador in Bern and will also personally present Switzerland’s position, a department spokesperson said Sunday.

“Switzerland rejects the death penalty everywhere and under all circumstances, as it is incompatible with the right to life and human dignity,” the FDFA stressed.

Switzerland also called on the Zionist entity to fully respect its international obligations, including the prohibition of discrimination, as well as the guarantees of the rule of law and due process.

The new death penalty law has sparked a wave of outrage in Palestine and internationally.

In Palestine, a general strike was observed last Wednesday across the governorates of the occupied West Bank, calling for the immediate repeal of the law.
