Sudanese Army Repels RSF Attack, Seizes Al-Takma Area

The Sudanese army said on Tuesday it had repelled an assault by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the city of Dilling in South Kordofan State, and later seized control of Al-Takma area following intense clashes.
In a statement, the military said its forces “continue to achieve decisive victories,” adding that they intercepted an RSF offensive on Monday.
The engagement ended with the RSF’s defeat, inflicting heavy casualties and equipment losses that forced the group to retreat.
The army added that its forces had taken control of Al-Takma area, about 14 kilometers east of Dilling, after battles that inflicted heavy losses on RSF in both personnel and equipment.
The statement reaffirmed that the military would continue operations “until the complete elimination of RSF and the restoration of security across the country.” The latest clashes underscore renewed RSF pressure on Dilling, the second-largest city in South Kordofan.
On 26 January, the army said it had broken a two-year RSF siege on the city.
A separate attack on 29 March was also repelled, prior to Monday’s renewed assault.
Clashes between the Sudanese army and RSF have intensified across the three Kordofan states “North, South and West” since 25 October, displacing tens of thousands of civilians in recent months.
The broader conflict, which erupted in mid-April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions, creating what the United Nations describes as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
