On October 22, the Sudanese army carried out an airstrike on the capital, Khartoum, resulting in the deaths of 10 people, including 20 children, and injuring four others, according to the Sudanese Volunteer Rescue Force. This devastating attack was part of the ongoing violent conflict between the Sudanese Army (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been raging since April 2023.
On the same day, another airstrike targeted the Sheikh El Jeili mosque in Wad Madani, the capital of Gezira state, killing at least 31 people. The strike occurred shortly after evening prayers, with 15 victims identified thus far. These attacks come amid fierce fighting in Al-Jazira state, where battles have claimed the lives of more than 50 people since October.
The conflict in Sudan has resulted in widespread casualties. According to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, over 24,850 people have died in the fighting. Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) reports that nearly a third of the war-related injuries are among women and children under the age of 10, underscoring the devastating impact on civilians in the region.
