Sudan: Cholera Infections Exceed 26,000 Cases with 737 Deaths

Sudanese authorities announced on Tuesday that the country has reported over 26,000 cases of cholera, leading to 737 fatalities since last August.
In a press release, the Ministry of Health confirmed that “39 new cholera cases have been identified across six states, bringing the total to 26,472 cases, including 737 deaths.”
The affected states include Kassala, Gedaref, and Red Sea in the east; Nile and Northern State in the north; and Al-Jazira in the center.
On August 12, Sudanese officials declared an outbreak of cholera in the country.
This health crisis unfolds amidst the ongoing turmoil in Sudan. The conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has persisted since April 2023, has resulted in approximately 20,000 deaths and displaced over 10 million people, both internally and as refugees.
