Start of the AU Executive Council Meeting in Addis Ababa

ADDIS ABABA, February 12, 2025 – The 46th ordinary session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council began on Wednesday in Addis Ababa, in anticipation of the 38th summit of heads of state and government scheduled to take place in the Ethiopian capital on February 15 and 16.

Delegated by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf is participating in the AU Executive Council sessions taking place on February 12 and 13.

The agenda for this 46th session encompasses a range of significant topics pertaining to collective African action. Key items include the review of annual reports from the continental organization and its various bodies, the election of members to the AU Peace and Security Council, the selection of six AU commissioners, the finalization of the legal framework for the African Continental Free Trade Area, and the adoption of statutes for the African mechanism for disaster forecasting and response.
