Spanish PM Condemns Zionist Entity’s Attack on Gaza-Bound Flotilla as Violation of International Law

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Thursday condemned the Zionist entity’s assault on the Gaza-bound Sumud Flotilla, calling it “a violation of international law.” Speaking at the European Political Community meeting in Denmark, Sanchez emphasized that Madrid had been in constant contact with participants throughout the night. He underlined that Spain will provide diplomatic protection for its citizens and all activists aboard the flotilla, stressing that their rights must be safeguarded.
According to the official flotilla tracker, Zionist naval forces attacked 21 vessels late Wednesday, detaining at least 317 activists, who are now being transported to Ashdod Port for deportation to Europe. The flotilla, carrying mainly humanitarian and medical supplies, had set sail several days ago in an attempt to break the blockade imposed on Gaza for nearly 18 years. This was the first time in years that dozens of ships sailed together and reached so close to the enclave.
The zionist entity’s tightening of the blockade earlier this year—closing all crossings and barring food, medicine, and aid—has plunged Gaza into famine. Since October 2023, more than 66,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed by Zionist bombardments. The ongoing siege has rendered Gaza nearly uninhabitable, with starvation and disease spreading amid the destruction.
