Spanish Legal Experts Denounce Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara

Spanish international law experts have strongly criticized Morocco’s 2007 autonomy plan, which claims sovereignty over Western Sahara — a territory listed by the UN as non-self-governing.

“The right to self-determination is guaranteed under international law to peoples under colonial, foreign, or racist domination. This clearly applies to Western Sahara,” said Juan Soroeta, professor of public international law at the University of the Basque Country.
