ALGIERS, Oct 21, 2025 – Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska on Monday visited Djamaa El-Djazair, the Great Mosque of Algiers, where he was received by the mosque’s rector, Sheikh Mohamed Mamoune El-Kacimi El-Houceini, and Algeria’s Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud, according to the rectorate.
Welcoming the delegation, El-Kacimi El-Houceini described Algerian-Spanish relations as “historic and deeply rooted,” built on mutual respect and cooperation. He said the visit reflected both nations’ “shared will to strengthen bridges of cooperation.”
The rector also praised Spain’s “fair and forward-looking” stance on the Palestinian cause. For his part, Grande-Marlaska expressed admiration for the mosque’s architecture, calling it “a civilizational, scientific and spiritual bridge” between the two countries.
