Spain: Four More Arrested in Morocco-Spain Drug Smuggling Tunnel Case

Spanish police arrested four suspects in Ceuta as part of an ongoing investigation into a drug smuggling network using a tunnel between Morocco and the Spanish enclave.

This follows Operation Al-Duha, which earlier led to the arrest of eight people and the seizure of over 1,000 kg of hashish. Authorities confirmed that three of the latest detainees have criminal records and will face trial soon.

The case began in August 2023, when a drug shipment was intercepted in Algeciras. Investigations traced it back to Ceuta, revealing a network that used modified vehicles for smuggling drugs across Spain.

In February, Spanish authorities arrested five people, seized 700 kg of hashish, and discovered the smuggling tunnel connecting Fnideq (Morocco) to Ceuta.

This case highlights Morocco’s central role in cross-border drug trafficking, reinforcing Spain’s security concerns despite intensified anti-smuggling efforts.
