South Sudan: Salva Kiir Dismisses Vice President Bol Mel (Official)

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit has dismissed Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel and removed him from his positions within the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), according to presidential decrees read on national television SSBC, and confirmed by Africa News.
“President Salva Kiir has relieved Benjamin Bol Mel from his duties as Vice President and expelled him from all SPLM leadership roles,” the state broadcaster reported on Thursday evening.
According to local media reports cited by Africa News, “Benjamin Bol Mel was also demoted from the rank of General to that of an ordinary soldier in the National Security Service.”
The decrees also removed Paul Logale from his position as SPLM Secretary-General, replacing him with Akol Paul Kordit, according to the same sources.
In February, Kiir had appointed Bol Mel to replace Wani Igga as Vice President representing the SPLM.
South Sudan remains one of the few countries in the world with five vice presidents, a structure established under the 2018 peace agreement.
