South Korea Urges Military Readiness as North Korea Condemns Trilateral Naval Drills

South Korea’s acting President Han Duck-soo has called on the military to be prepared for alleged threats from North Korea, while Pyongyang denounced recent joint naval drills by South Korea, Japan, and the US. Chairing an emergency National Security Council meeting, Han emphasized close cooperation with allies to safeguard national interests. Meanwhile, North Korea warned of “overwhelming and decisive counteraction” against what it sees as provocations aimed at undermining its maritime sovereignty.

Han also highlighted economic concerns, pledging to defend South Korea’s interests amid ongoing global trade conflicts. His return to office follows the Constitutional Court’s dismissal of his impeachment, allowing him to resume leadership amid political instability triggered by President Yoon Suk Yeol’s suspension. The ruling has intensified tensions as opposition parties continue to challenge Yoon’s governance.
