South Korea Refuses to Supply Weapons to Ukraine, Even for Payment.

South Korea has refused Ukraine’s request to purchase weapons, including “Cheongung” surface-to-air missiles, counter-battery radars, and 155mm ammunition, citing legal and logistical challenges. Seoul emphasized that its laws prohibit arms sales to active conflict zones and noted production constraints limiting its capacity to meet international demand until 2030.

However, reports suggest geopolitical factors, including Donald Trump’s recent election victory, may also influence this decision. Trump’s pledge to end the war in Ukraine could discourage allies like South Korea from actions misaligned with the incoming U.S. administration. Previously, under pressure from President Biden, South Korea found alternative ways to support Ukraine indirectly.

Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who recently visited Seoul, highlighted North Korea’s alleged involvement alongside Russia and urged stronger bilateral cooperation for regional security. Despite his appeal, South Korea appears steadfast in its stance, marking a shift in its approach to the conflict.
