South Korea detected 11 cases of mpox this year

SEOUL – South Korea has reported 11 cases of mpox virus this year. The detected cases were of the Clade 2 variant, which is considered less lethal, health authorities announced on Monday.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) indicated that the latest case was reported this month, adding that the majority of patients were males aged 20 to 40 in the capital, Seoul. Accordingly, the health authorities have taken the necessary measures to cope with the deadly new variant, reported the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The KDCA added that health authorities have increased border screening to detect the new strain, noting that “unlike respiratory illnesses, it is unlikely for the disease to spread through daily activities.” Consequently, citizens are urged to abide by the preventive measures, according to Yonhap.
South Korea reported 151 mpox cases last year.
