South Africa Reaffirms Unwavering Support for the Sahrawi People’s Right to Self-Determination

On Thursday, Ronald Lamola, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, reaffirmed his country’s steadfast support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.
The South African Foreign Minister made these remarks during a farewell meeting with Yeslem Beissat, the outgoing ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in South Africa.
According to a statement from the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Minister Ronald Lamola expressed gratitude to Ambassador Beissat for his efforts in strengthening fraternal and diplomatic ties throughout his tenure in South Africa.
Lamola extended his congratulations to Ambassador Beissat on his recent appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the SADR, while “reaffirming South Africa’s unwavering support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination,” the announcement noted.
“South Africa remains resolute in its call for an end to the illegal occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco and urges the African Union (AU) and the international community to stand in solidarity with the Sahrawi cause,” the statement concluded.
