South Africa: ANC Reaffirms Support for Sahrawi People’s Right to Self-Determination

The African National Congress (ANC), South Africa’s ruling party, has reaffirmed its “long-standing and principled” commitment to the people of Western Sahara in their pursuit of self-determination. The ANC emphasized that it has consistently supported the struggles of oppressed peoples worldwide since its founding.
“The ANC upholds a principled and enduring position of solidarity with the people of Western Sahara, anchored in our profound commitment to anti-colonialism and the right to self-determination,” stated the ruling party in a press release.
“Since its inception, the party has supported the struggles of oppressed peoples around the globe, firmly expressing its backing for the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and the liberation of Western Sahara from Moroccan occupation,” the statement continued.
In its announcement, the ANC asserted that it “remains steadfastly committed to the rights of the Sahrawi people to independence and freedom, and will not tolerate any actions that could undermine its principled stance on self-determination and anti-colonialism.”
Additionally, the party noted that it “will continue to collaborate with its allies, including Algeria and other members of the international community, to ensure that the Sahrawi people can realize their legitimate right to freedom.”
