Sonelgaz Supplies Tunisian Grid with 1,000 MW of Electricity

The Algerian electricity and gas company Sonelgaz Group has provided the Tunisian electric grid with 1,000 megawatts of electricity in response to an outage at a power plant operated by the Tunisian Company for Electricity and Gas (STEG). This support enables Tunisia to maintain the balance of its electrical energy transmission system, as stated in a joint press release from both companies.

“In accordance with directives from the country’s high authorities aimed at enhancing cooperative ties with Tunisia and their commitment to continue supplying this nation with electrical energy, Sonelgaz promptly supplied the Tunisian grid with 1,000 megawatts of electricity following the breakdown of a STEG power plant with a capacity of 400 megawatts on Saturday, September 7, 2024,” the release noted.

According to the same source, this figure marks a “record” for Sonelgaz’s exports to Tunisia, facilitating effective management of the situation while ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply and maintaining the stability of the transmission system.

On this occasion, STEG expressed its gratitude to the Algerian company Sonelgaz for its ongoing collaboration, particularly during this exceptional circumstance, the joint statement concluded.
