Sonelgaz: Iraqi Delegation Seeks Algeria’s Support in Energy Sector

The CEO of Algerian power company Sonelgaz, Mourad Adjal, welcomed an Iraqi energy delegation on Thursday in Algiers, which sought support from the public group for Iraq’s electricity and gas sectors.
The delegation, led by Mansour Mareed Attia, a member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Energy Committee, included the CEO and deputy director of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company. They were received at Sonelgaz’s headquarters in the presence of several senior executives from the organization, as stated in a communiqué from Sonelgaz.
During this meeting, which aligns with the implementation of recommendations from high-ranking authorities in Algeria and Sonelgaz’s commitment to fostering international partnerships, both parties discussed avenues to enhance cooperation between the two nations in the energy sector.
Mansour Mareed Attia praised the notable professionalism observed during a tour of several industrial units managed by Sonelgaz, which have attained self-sufficiency in producing meters and various essential equipment for the electricity and gas industries.
On this occasion, the Iraqi official urged Sonelgaz to “support the Iraqi energy sector, which is currently facing significant challenges.”
In response, the CEO of Sonelgaz affirmed that “the group, as a key player in Algeria’s energy policy, is dedicated to implementing the directives of the country’s high authorities concerning support for the energy sector in Iraq and enhancing pathways for partnership and collaboration between the two parties.”
After underscoring the group’s expertise in electricity and gas production, transportation, and distribution, as well as the substantial results achieved in exports through its activities in industry, training, digitization, and renewable energies, Adjal highlighted strategic projects currently being undertaken by Sonelgaz, including the electrical interconnection project between the northern and southern provinces and energy exports.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed on “the necessity of realizing the bilateral partnership, particularly through sending a delegation of Sonelgaz experts and specialists to Iraq to conduct in-depth field studies on the future of this partnership,” the communiqué concluded.
