Sonelgaz CEO Receives PAM ‘Energy Transition Award’ in Rome

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) honored Mourad Adjal, CEO of Algerian power company Sonelgaz Group, with the “PAM Energy Transition Award ” during its 19th plenary session on Thursday in Rome, Italy, as announced in a press release from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.

This award recognizes Adjal’s significant contributions to enhancing Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in renewable energy and his efforts to promote energy complementarity among the region’s electricity networks.

The ceremony took place at the prestigious Barberini Palace and was attended by prominent political and economic leaders, including the Algerian ambassador to Italy and several members of both chambers of Parliament.

In his acceptance speech, Adjal expressed his pride in receiving this accolade and acknowledged the support from the nation’s leadership, particularly President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for Sonelgaz’s initiatives aimed at boosting investment in renewable energy and ensuring energy security in the region.

“This recognition serves as an international acknowledgment of Sonelgaz’s endeavors and Algeria’s commitment to enhancing regional cooperation in the energy sector,” he remarked. He further emphasized that it reflects “our dedicated efforts to facilitate the energy transition, advance renewable energy projects, and ensure the complementarity of electricity networks across the Mediterranean.”

This international distinction highlights “Algeria’s pivotal role in the energy sector and validates the success of Sonelgaz’s strategies in promoting the energy transition and developing sustainable projects.”
