Sonelgaz and Matelec Discuss Establishing Transformer Manufacturing in Algeria

Mourad Adjal, the CEO of Algerian power and gas company Sonelgaz, held a meeting with Sami Saghir, the CEO of the Lebanese company Matelec, at the company’s headquarters to discuss potential partnership opportunities in electric transformer manufacturing, according to a statement released by the Algerian group on Tuesday.
This meeting, which took place on Monday, is part of Sonelgaz’s efforts to expand its international partnerships and attract foreign investments in Algeria, particularly within the electrical equipment manufacturing sector, as noted in the statement.
During the discussions, the Lebanese representatives showcased their expertise in manufacturing high and very high voltage transformers and expressed a desire to expand and localize this industrial activity in Algeria, aligning with the country’s economic dynamism.
The Lebanese official also conveyed his interest in participating in this economic momentum, particularly because his company regards Sonelgaz as a reliable partner due to its strong reputation across Africa.
In response, Adjal highlighted that the current economic environment makes Algeria an attractive destination for investment. He reaffirmed Sonelgaz’s commitment to supporting investors aiming to establish electrical equipment industries, especially those related to high voltage networks, as part of the national industrial development strategy and the promotion of export-oriented products.
Furthermore, both parties expressed a shared desire to access African markets by undertaking major energy infrastructure projects that could significantly contribute to the development of the energy sector on a continental scale.
The statement concluded that this meeting is part of a broader series of initiatives by Sonelgaz aimed at forging strategic partnerships to promote domestic industry and achieve sustainable development, in accordance with the directives from the country’s leadership to diversify exports beyond hydrocarbons.
