Sonatrach Participates in Berlin Meeting on ALTEH2A and SoutH2 Corridor Progress

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sonatrach Group, Nour Eddine Daoudi, leading a delegation of senior executives from the group, took part on Wednesday in Berlin, Germany, in a major event relating to the presentation of the progress concerning Algeria to Europe Hydrogen Alliance (ALTEH2A) and SoutH2 Corridor, which aims to produce hydrogen in Algeria for export to Europe, the group said in a statement.

The event brought together “high-level representatives from the energy sector in Algeria, Germany, Italy and Austria who focused their meeting on the progress achieved within the framework of this project and exchanged views on the conditions required for the success of this strategic cooperation,” the statement said.

The project is carried out jointly by the companies Sonatrach and Sonelgaz (Algeria), VNG AG (Germany), SNAM and Sea Corridor (Italy), and Verbund Green Hydrogen (Austria), according to the statement.

Sonatrach pointed out that the “Alliance ALTEH2A is underpinned by significant renewable energy resources in Algeria and explores opportunities of green hydrogen production to supply the European market via the South Corridor, thus, creating new opportunities for sustainable growth and international cooperation.” The projects relating to the SouthH2Corridor “have been recognized by the European Commission as Projects of Common Interest (PCI), confirming their strategic scope for the cross- border energy infrastructure,” the statement said.

In January 2025, the governments of Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Austria and Germany “reaffirmed their joint commitment through the signing of a statement for the political support to this Corridor.”
