Sonatrach, ExxonMobil Meet in Houston to Explore Exploration Cooperation

The CEO of the Algerian oil company Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, recently conducted a working session with officials from ExxonMobil in Houston, Texas, focusing on potential collaboration in oil and gas exploration, according to a statement released by the public group on Thursday.

The session, which included senior executives from Sonatrach, commenced with a meeting between Hachichi and John Ardill, Vice President of Exploration and New Ventures at ExxonMobil.

“The two parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in hydrocarbon exploration and strategies to develop Algeria’s mining sector,” the statement indicated.

Additionally, a monitoring committee was convened to assess the progress of negotiations aimed at finalizing a hydrocarbons contract between Sonatrach and ExxonMobil.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Sonatrach delegation toured ExxonMobil’s remote operations control center, followed by a visit to the methane emissions monitoring and operations center in Houston. During these visits, the Algerian representatives closely observed the activities at both facilities and the innovative technological solutions implemented by the American company, particularly concerning carbon footprint reduction.

This working session is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relations with ExxonMobil, in line with the memorandum of understanding signed by both parties on May 23, 2024. This agreement aims to explore opportunities for developing hydrocarbon resources in the Ahnet and Gourara basins, with an emphasis on “operational excellence, technological innovation, environmental stewardship, and the adoption of best practices in sustainability,” the statement concluded.
