Sonatrach CEO : Algeria, a Strategic Bridge Between Africa and Europe for Energy Development and Regional Cooperation

In his address at NAPEC, Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi underlined that the future of global energy cannot be imagined without Africa, a continent rich in resources and endowed with a young population. He stressed that strengthening African energy cooperation is a strategic choice to meet rising demand, foster sustainable development, and reduce inequalities in access to modern and secure energy.

“Algeria, as a natural bridge between Africa and Europe, leverages its geographic location and expertise in hydrocarbons to strengthen cooperation with African nations,” Hachichi said. He explained that Sonatrach contributes to this partnership across multiple fields, including exploration, production, infrastructure development, as well as training, research, and innovation. Algeria, he added, remains committed to deepening and diversifying its partnerships with African countries.

Hachichi also described Mediterranean countries as strategic partners due to their historical ties, shared energy interests, and long-term projects. He affirmed that Algeria, through Sonatrach, is working to reinforce its role in Mediterranean energy security by developing new infrastructure, expanding transport and storage capacities, and pursuing collaborative projects in research and innovation, particularly in the fields of hydrogen and emerging energy solutions.
