Sonatrach Announces Resumption of Oil Activities in Niger

The Algerian oil company Sonatrach has announced, via a communiqué, the resumption of its oil activities in Niger following discussions in Niamey with the Nigerien Petroleum Company (Sonidep S.A).

During a visit by a delegation led by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, ministerial meetings were held that included managers from both Sonatrach and Sonidep S.A. It was decided that “Sipex,” a subsidiary of Sonatrach, would resume operations on the “Kafra” block with a mutually agreed-upon implementation schedule, as stated in the communiqué.

Moreover, it was agreed that a monthly review of progress on the “Kafra” project would be conducted through a joint monitoring committee to ensure effective execution of the work.

Additionally, areas of cooperation between Sonatrach and Sonidep S.A were identified, particularly in training and skills development. Future prospects for major projects such as the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) were also discussed, according to the communiqué.

“This meeting represents a valuable opportunity for the parties to strengthen their bilateral relationship and promote the sustainable development of the oil and gas industry on a regional scale while working together towards common objectives,” concludes the document.

To recall, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, made a working visit to Niger on August 6th and 7th, accompanied by Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi and senior officials from the ministry and the public group.
