Somalia: 19 Terrorists Eliminated in Military Operations

On Wednesday, the Somali government announced that 19 members of the terrorist group Al-Shabab were neutralized during military operations conducted in the central and southern regions of the country.

In a statement, the government reported that “a 24-hour military operation took place in the Ronergod area, during which 14 Al-Shabab operatives were eliminated while they were preparing to attack army strongholds in the region.”

The statement further indicated that “a second operation targeted checkpoints where Al-Shabab members were extorting money from the local population in the Ail Hili region of Galmudug State, resulting in the elimination of five militants.”

The source noted that “the military, along with international partners, succeeded in destroying an armored vehicle and a water tank held by the Al-Shabab members.”

For years, the Somali government has been engaged in a campaign against Al-Shabab, which has claimed responsibility for bombings that have resulted in the deaths of civilians, as well as military and police personnel.
