Somali President Commends Algeria’s Role in Promoting Peace, Justice, African Solidarity

President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday praised Algeria’s role in promoting peace, justice, and African solidarity.
In a joint statement with President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune following bilateral talks they held at the Presidential Palace, the Somali President said: “It is a great honor and privilege to be in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, a country that has a broad history of liberation, leadership and solidarity, and continuously inspires us all, in Africa and in the Arab world.”
Regarding his discussions with the President Tebboune, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said they were “marked by a strong spirit of fraternity, mutual understanding and shared determination to strengthen the historical bonds that unite our two peoples,” adding that the two leaders reaffirmed their “continuous commitment to building a partnership founded on mutual benefit and mutual respect.”
The two presidents reviewed key areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, education, defense, security, agriculture, and human capacity and human capital development, as they agreed, he said, to “work together to promote regional stability and strengthen economic integration and advance the broader objectives of the African Union, AU Agenda 2063 and Somalia’s vision of 2060.” “We have agreed to stand solidly with the people of Palestine for their independence,” to establish their “own state” with “Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital withing the borders of 1967,” President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said.
He added that they discussed many other issues relating to the Arab world, including the situation in Libya, Sudan and Western Sahara, highlighting the importance of respecting their sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Algeria and Somalia will work together to make sure that those countries enjoy the same basic rights as any other country,” he continued.
President Sheikh Mahamud highly commended Algeria’s role “in promoting peace, justice, and African solidarity,” adding: “we also appreciate Algeria’s unwavering support to Somalia’s state building and peace consolidation efforts.” He said in this respect that Somalia will always remember Algeria’s honorable position alongside Somalia during the most difficult stages it has gone through.
The president of the of the Federal Republic of Somalia said: “we have signed a set of important agreements that lay a new foundation for enhanced collaboration between our two countries.
He stressed that the agreements “reflect our shared desire to transform our long-standing friendship into practical and structured cooperation that will benefit our two peoples and contribute to the development of our region and our African continent,” pointing out that the two leaders agreed to establish a joint ministerial committee “for the implementation of what we have agreed upon and explore new areas of collaboration.”
