Sheinbaum, Trump Discuss Cooperation After Cancelled G7 Meeting

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she had a “very good” phone call Tuesday with US President Donald Trump, following the cancellation of their scheduled meeting during the G7 summit in Canada, which Trump abruptly left due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

On social media, Sheinbaum confirmed that the two leaders discussed several pending issues, adding that both sides agreed to work together toward reaching an agreement soon. “We will defend with dignity the Mexicans here and on the other side of the border,” she emphasized, reaffirming her stance on protecting the rights of Mexican nationals in the US.

The White House echoed her assessment, with an official describing the conversation as “good.” However, relations remain strained over Trump’s aggressive immigration crackdown, which has recently seen a surge in arrests of undocumented individuals—including some US citizens—and the reported death of a Mexican national in an immigration facility. Despite the friction, a face-to-face meeting between Sheinbaum and Trump is still under discussion.
