Severe Weather in Spain: Three Dead in Hangar Collapse

A tragic incident occurred on Friday when an agricultural hangar collapsed in southern Spain, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. This catastrophe is attributed to Storm Nuria, which brought powerful winds and heavy rainfall, according to emergency services.

The collapse took place at a farm in Coria del Río, near Seville in Andalusia, as reported by a spokesperson for the emergency services.

A local resident raised the alarm, describing how the wind had “torn off the roof” and damaged the walls of the structure. Upon their arrival, rescuers found the lifeless bodies of the three victims.

“Medical sources have confirmed” their deaths, stated the regional government of Andalusia, adding that the strong winds also affected a high-voltage tower.

The approach of Storm Nuria off the coasts of Spain and Portugal prompted the Spanish meteorological agency (Aemet) to issue yellow alerts for several regions, including Andalusia, due to the risks associated with strong gusts and heavy rain.

This storm marks the fifth weather system to impact Spain since early March, a period characterized by precipitation levels 2.5 times above normal. The nearly continuous succession of storms has resulted in approximately ten fatalities across various incidents.
