SEMICA 2026: Algeria, Chad Discuss Cement Industry Cooperation

The Algerian Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, held on Wednesday in N’Djamena, a working session with the Chadian Minister of Trade and Industry, Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, with whom he discussed ways to develop bilateral cooperation in the cement industry, as part of the International Mining, Quarries and Hydrocarbons Conference and Exhibition “SEMICA Chad 2026,” scheduled from 21 to 23 January in the Chadian capital, according to a statement from the ministry.
The meeting, attended by the Algerian ambassador to Chad Fayçal Djaouti, GICA CEO Rabah Guessoum, and officials from Chad’s Trade and Industry Ministry and the GICA Group, follows up on a preparatory meeting held in Algeria on December 18 to explore cooperation prospects in the cement industry, the statement said.
In this regard, ways to develop the cement industry in Chad were examined, through the study of available options, whether through the implementation of structured industrial projects in the medium term, or the adoption of practical and rapid solutions responding to immediate needs, particularly in light of the recorded gap between the current level of cement consumption and the needs associated with development and construction requirements, according to the same source.
Discussions also covered the possibility of establishing clinker grinding units with Algerian expertise and raw material supplies from Algeria to meet Chadian market needs and support local cement sector development, added the source.
In this respect, emphasis was placed on the importance of benefiting from the Algerian experience in the field of cement and building materials industry, particularly through GICA Group, which possesses considerable productive and human capacities and extensive experience in the cement and building materials industry.
The two parties also agreed to conclude a protocol agreement defining the general framework for cooperation, which would allow for the deepening of technical discussions and the execution of industrial partnership projects and joint projects serving the mutual interests of both countries and contributing to the support of industrial development, added the ministry in its statement.
