Security Council : Algerian FM Ahmed Attaf Chairs A3+ Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New York

ALGIERS – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf chaired in New York a meeting of Foreign Ministers of the A3+ group, held at Algeria’s initiative, said a Ministry press release on Wednesday.
The A3+ group includes the three African countries that are non-permanent members of the UN Security Council (Algeria, Sierra Leone and Mozambique), as well as Guyana, which has historical ties of solidarity with the African continent. Somalia also participated in the meeting in anticipation of its term on the Security Council starting on January 1, 2025, succeeding Mozambique, according to the communiqué.
“Held at the initiative of Algeria, which coordinates the group, the meeting was an opportunity to re-commit to regular consultation and close coordination on the various issues on the Security Council’s agenda, and to discuss the ways to preserve this consultation mechanism and make it more effective and coherent,” said the source.
This meeting is also “part of the preparations for the next edition of the High-Level Conference on Peace and Security in Africa, scheduled for early December in Oran. The creation of the A3 group is one of the major achievements of the “Oran process” launched over 10 years ago,” said the source.
