SCO Warns Against Reinterpretation of UN Resolution on Iran Nuclear Deal

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Monday warned against any reinterpretation of a United Nations resolution endorsing the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, after European powers triggered a mechanism aimed at reimposing UN sanctions on Tehran.
In their final summit declaration, SCO member states reaffirmed the “binding nature” of the resolution, stressing that “any attempts to misinterpret or arbitrarily reinterpret this resolution will undermine the authority of the Security Council.”
The warning comes amid renewed tensions over Iran’s nuclear program, with Western powers pressing for tougher measures, while countries within the SCO emphasize the importance of upholding international agreements and safeguarding the credibility of the UN system.
