Sahrawi Republic Signs MoU with SADC On Political Action

On Thursday, the Sahrawi Republic signed a memorandum of understanding with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regarding political cooperation.
The memorandum states, “Convinced of the necessity to uphold the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination in accordance with international law provisions related to decolonization, and taking into account the organization’s unified position on Western Sahara, the Southern African Development Community reaffirms its support for the Sahrawi cause, which is recognized by the United Nations as the last colony in Africa on its list of non-self-governing territories,” as reported by the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS).
The SADC expressed its strong and genuine desire to enhance relations of solidarity, cooperation, and friendship with the Government of the Sahrawi Republic. This commitment aligns with the objectives and principles outlined in the Constitutive Act of the African Union and the principles of the United Nations Charter concerning the rights of peoples to freedom, independence, socioeconomic development, and sovereignty over their territories and resources.
The memorandum was signed by Bah El Mad Abdellah, the Sahrawi ambassador to Botswana, and Elias Magosi, the Executive Director of SADC.
