Rwanda: 52 Dead Due to Heavy Rains (Authorities)

Fifty-two people have died and 107 others have been injured as a result of heavy rains in Rwanda, announced Adalbert Rukebanuka, a representative from the Ministry of Emergency Management (MINEMA), on Friday.
“Between April 1 and April 17, we recorded 390 incidents that resulted in the deaths of 52 individuals. Additionally, 107 people sustained injuries of varying degrees. Approximately 800 families were forced to evacuate their homes due to the threat of flooding, and temporary shelters have been established for them. In total, 731 houses have suffered damage,” Rukebanuka stated, as reported by the New Times.
Authorities have identified 522 areas at particularly high risk, home to around 97,000 residents. Intense rainfall is expected to affect these regions through May.
According to meteorological services, this April has been exceptionally rainy for Rwanda.
