Russian Senior Military Official Killed in Explosion in Moscow

A senior Russian military official was killed in an explosion on Tuesday morning near a residential building in southeastern Moscow, the Russian Investigative Committee confirmed. The explosion occurred on December 17, 2024, when a bomb placed on a parked scooter detonated near the entrance of the building on Ryazansky Street.
The blast claimed the lives of Igor Kirilov, the head of Russia’s Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense Forces, and his deputy. The explosion caused significant damage to the building’s entrance and shattered windows in several apartments, as reported by Russian media outlets.
The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into the assassination of the two military officials, sending investigators to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
