Russian Forces Liberate Kurakhovo in Donbass, Dealing Heavy Losses to Ukrainian Army

The Ukrainian army suffered significant losses in the city of Kurakhovo, where Russian forces have now fully taken control, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The capture of this key city provides the Russian Armed Forces with operational freedom, allowing them to accelerate their efforts to liberate more territory within the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The Ministry of Defense reported that during active offensive operations, the Yug military group liberated Kurakhovo, a major settlement in the southwestern part of Donbass. This victory is expected to increase the pace of liberation efforts in the region.
The Ukrainian forces defending Kurakhovo experienced heavy casualties, losing over 12,000 personnel, 40 tanks, and numerous other armored vehicles. Ukrainian losses during the two-month operation near the city averaged between 150 and 180 killed and wounded soldiers per day.
The defense of Kurakhovo was heavily supported by nationalist units and foreign mercenaries, bolstered by artillery and tanks. Ukrainian forces had concentrated 26 battalions, consisting of more than 15,000 personnel, to defend the city.
The city’s strategic importance was evident, as it was heavily fortified with a complex network of permanent firing points and underground communications, making it a difficult target for Russian assault units.
